The Green Army returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over FC Stratford, in what was a great response to Saturdays disappointing defeat.

The game proved to be one where Coton created chance after chance, with continuous attacking potential however lacking the clinical instinct when the ball broke in front of goal. Despite this, they did secure an early lead in the 7th minute after a good passage of play down the left hand side which resulted in a Coton free kick 25 yards out. Owen Watkins stepped up to take the kick which saw his low effort evade everyone and find the bottom corner of the goal via a deflection off of the post.

Coton’s next best chance came in the 19th minute when the electric pace of Jay Henry saw him in space on the right hand side of the box, allowing him to cut the ball across to Jon Letford whose side footed effort had the goalkeeper beat but unfortunately ricocheted back off of the crossbar.

FC Stratford did grow into the game and showed great spirit and urgency on the counter attack, forcing Brandon Bache into a number of smart saves to keep Coton’s lead in tact. The best of these saw the visitors striker through on goal, before his lobbed effort was matched with an excellent reaction save by Bache. Coton did have another opportunity to double their lead just before the break, but Letford’s volley saw the Stratford ‘keeper produce an excellent finger tip save.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Coton on the front foot, and in the 50th minute a golden opportunity was presented to the Green Army as a penalty was awarded for a foul on Letford. Dean Morris stepped up to take the resulting kick, but his low strike was excellently saved by the visitors ‘keeper to keep the score at 1-0.

The chances continued to come for Coton with Brad Mansell testing the Stratford ‘keeper on a number of occasions, as well as some fantastic last ditch defending to clear 2 chances off the line. Jay Henry was next in line with a guilt edged chance for Coton, when from a couple of yards out he put his effort over the bar.

With the game deep into injury time, the second goal finally came for Coton. A free flowing passage of play down the right saw an incisive pass across to substitute Ross Evans, who composed himself before slotting the ball into the bottom corner to secure the 3 points for Coton in a well deserved win.
