The Green Army were forced to settle for a point against a battling Eynesbury Rovers side who fought til the end.

Coton put in one of their better performances of the season so far, setting the tone from the first whistle dominating possession and creating opportunities. However it was the visitors defence who remained resolute and made themselves hard to be broken down.

The breakthrough finally came in the 24th minute, when an attack started off by Niall Rowe resulted in the games opener. Rowe’s ball into Louie O’Connor saw a delicate flick around the corner by the latter into the feet of Jon Letford. Letford showed his strength to hold off the defender before laying back to O’Connor who had found space in the middle third. O’Connor then found Jay Henry with his through ball and the Coton forward made no mistake in driving into the box before slotting into the bottom corner.

The chances continued to develop for Coton as the visitors struggled to deal with the pace of attack, and in the 42nd minute it should have been 2-0 when more excellent link up play in the final third saw Ross Evans with space at the back post. Unfortunately the effort on goal didn’t have the power to really trouble the ‘keeper after a strong build up by the Green Army.

The second period continued in the same manner with Coton pushing for the crucial second goal, however they came up against a robust Eynesbury backline who stood up to the task time after time. The best chance of the second period so far came in the 73rd minute with Coton well on top. Another free flowing move saw great hold up play by Gio Dainty to play through Jay Henry. He carried the ball into the box before a delicate backheel freed up Alex Tomkinson whose low effort was matched by the ‘keeper.

The sucker punch for Coton came in the 80th minute when an attack down the right hand side for Eynesbury resulted in a failed clearance which gave their forward space to control and fire his shot into the bottom corner of the goal. The reaction was positive by the Green Army and despite a late onslaught of chances, the winning goal couldn’t be found thanks to heroic defending from the visitors.
