The Green Army made it 3 wins from 3 with a tightly contested 2-1 victory on the road at Histon.

Off the back of an emphatic win midweek away at Highgate United, there was just 1 changed for Coton in the form of Alex Tomkinson, coming in for Louie O’ Connor following his 1 game suspension from the Daventry Town game.

It was the hosts who started the brightest, as Coton struggled to settle and they paid the price for this. A ball out to Histon winger Enoch Opayinka saw him evade the Coton defence before cutting inside the box and rocketing his shot past Lewis Landers to make it 1-0.

This provided Coton with the impetus to play more on the front foot and go on the attack, with chances for Jay D Lionga and Alex Tomkinson before finally finding an equaliser in the 23rd minute. Jay Henry showed pace and quality down the right hand side to drive into the box, and drawing the foul from the defender to see Coton awarded a penalty. Henry then stepped up and showed composure to slot the effort home.

The game continued to be relatively open although Coton took control of proceedings and looked like the team who would go on to get a second. Despite a spell from Histon early in the second half, Coton managed to repel their attacks and limit the chances on goal. It was in the 77th minute that the Green Army finally got the decisive goal to win the contest.

With a foul awarded on the corner of the 18 yard box, Alex Tomkinson showed his experience and quality to step up and curl the free kick into the top corner leaving the hosts ‘keeper well beaten. The outcome could have been much different if not for Landers heroics in injury time, as a cross into the box saw a near post flick directed goalward however our number 1 pulled out an impressive stop to secure Coton the win.

An impressive win, topped off with another solid performance sees Coton go into next weeks FA Cup clash away at Chasetown in a buoyant mood.
