The Green Army made it 2 wins from 2 with a comprehensive victory on the road against Highgate United.

From the off it was all Coton, and an early lead was secured when a sublime touch and cross by Jay D Lionga was met in the middle by Jon Letford who flicked it towards goal past the defender to make it 1-0. Another excellent passage of play nearly saw Coton double their lead after carving out a chance via a neat triangle between Lionga, Letford and Evans with the latter firing a curled effort just wide.

However, we did get a second in the 18th minute, as the ball broke to Josh Beeson on the left hand side allowing him to hit a long range shot that beat the ‘keeper into the bottom right corner. The third goal wasn’t long after when Beeson turned provider with a corner delivered perfectly onto the head of Jon Letford, who guided his header across goal into the far corner of the net.

The final frenzy of the first period commenced in the 43rd minute, when Lewis Landers long kick was flicked on by Letford into the path of Beeson who controlled and fired his effort past the ‘keeper to make it 4-0. In stoppage time of the first half, Letford secured a first half hat-trick when Josh Beeson unselfishly squared to him 12 yards out allowing Letford to slot home into the bottom corner.

The second half proved to be a quieter affair in terms of goals scored, but Coton still managed to add 2 goals to the tally during the 45 minutes. In the 54th minute, it was arguably goal of the game for Coton after Alex Tomkinson was felled just outside the box. Up stepped Louie O’ Connor with his wand of a left foot, firing home the resulting free kick.

With just over 10 minutes to play, it was positive news in a different way as Tom Cullen returned to competitive action for the Green Army after 2 years out through injury. And it was Cullen who provided the assist for the final goal of the game, as Corey Powell found TC with a whipped ball from the left hand side, allowing him to lay it back to Jay Henry to rocket home his effort and make it 7-0.

A comprehensive victory for the Green Army on the road, with the sights now set on Histon this coming weekend.
